Tree of Wisdom

This is a poem I wrote back in 2010 just before my Costa Rica trip.

Unwind the path around the way
and down to the tree of wisdom.
A spiral crawl 'round roots below
to learn what it's trying to teach.

Root to branch to leaf to ground
to start all over again.
The wisdom of life is the wisdom of death
there is no beginning or end.

Thanks. Interestingly, when I wrote the poem, I was curious about my choice of "spiral crawl" as a descriptor. I didn't have a clear intention of meaning, It just seemed like the right description. Then, when I was in Costa Rica, we went to the University for Peace where we saw a monument to peace that included a spiral path to symbolize the endless deepening journey toward peace. I realized that this endless journey was what my words had captured, in relation to wisdom. The pursuit of wisdom is a lifelong spiral crawl through the complex lessons of life.

I love this poem. I too was intrigued by your words the "spiral crawl". For me, it conjured up an image of the enigmatic movement of all living things. ( I pictured those exotic creatures you saw in Costa Rica).
